The safety of our employees, pipeline neighbors, and the community is a top priority for Palomar and its partners.
Statistically, pipelines are the safest method of transporting natural gas consumed by homeowners and businesses in Oregon and southwest Washington.
Palomar will meet or exceed all relevant standards in the building, operation, and maintenance of its facilities . Palomar’s public safety and integrity management programs are the result of its owners’ historical commitment to safety. The proposed pipeline also benefits from the industry’s tradition of broadly sharing best practices that deliver demonstrable improvements to safety.
Palomar’s owners are industry leaders in emergency response. Our employees receive regular safety training and work with local emergency responders through on-the-ground exercises and regular communication to ensure the effectiveness of our emergency response plans.
Involving local firefighters, police, and emergency medical crews in Palomar’s training programs will ensure these personnel are familiar with pipeline operation and are ready to respond in the unlikely event of an incident.
The proposed Palomar Gas Transmission project has a rich heritage of environmental stewardship. Both of its owners, TransCanada and NW Natural, have extensive experience in designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining pipelines in a way that minimizes impact to the environment.
At every stage of Palomar’s development, the proposed project’s environmental impact will be considered, and mitigation plans specific to these impacts will be developed. Throughout the project’s life cycle, Palomar will operate from an understanding that sound environmental management is a necessary ingredient in creating strategic business value.
Palomar, through its association with TransCanada and NW Natural, will benefit from vast experience with best practices regarding wildlife and habitat programs, fisheries and water-crossing programs, vegetation and soils management, and waste management
